Impact in Action: Y Story – Jaysen Johnson

For Jaysen the YMCA became more than a place to regain a healthier lifestyle. It became a place of encouragement, support and an unexpected community. A year ago he set a goal to quit smoking, lose weight and run Bloomsday for the first time. Five months into his journey he came to the Central Y and met Monica, one of our Wellness Coaches. And true to her title, she coached and supported Jaysen all along the way commenting, “He is extremely diligent in his efforts, I love seeing him here on a consistent basis.” Today he is ten months smoke-free, has lost over 60 lbs. with Monica’s help, and completed Bloomsday with an official time of 1 hour 9 minutes. Twenty-one minutes better than he had estimated. “Bloomsday 2015 was my first race in 18 years and my longest race ever and I feel AMAZING! It just goes to show that with God, dedication and the right kind of support, you can accomplish anything. Thanks YMCA and let’s bring on the next race!”
