The Y – so much more than a gym

The YMCA has a unique view of health. We strive to develop holistic health, focusing on the improvement of mind, body, and spirit; each is just as important as the other. We believe that the development of this kind of health is best fostered when within a community that shares the same values. It is because of members like Cheryl McHenry, a Y member for the past 16 years, a proud grandmother, and a consistent donor to the Y’s Annual Campaign, that the YMCA community is unlike any other of it’s kind. A regular at the Valley YMCA, she enjoys exercising with members that have the same genuine desire to be healthy and fit. But the value she places on physical fitness is only a part of what motivates her to exercise. Diabetes and Cardiac disease are present in her family, and she hopes to set an example for her granddaughters to live a healthy lifestyle. Cheryl’s greatest motivator is her orientation toward improving the future of our youth....

My Y Story – Jody Sander

Every member of the YMCA community encounters the Y at various points in their lives. Often times, individuals seek out the Y when they are faced with adversities they can’t overcome alone. For Jody Sander, it was her drive and perseverance to make a serious lifestyle change that ultimately resulted in her losing a total of 85lbs in just the past year and a half. Although Jody is now a regular at the YMCA, she found the Y at the end of her journey. She found the Y when she needed it the most. Jody’s story started in October of 2015 when she made a pact with her friends to walk the Leavenworth Half Marathon a year later. It was setting this goal for herself that symbolized her decision to make the dramatic change that would leave her in a healthier and happier place.
