Pedal For PFY
Lace up those sneakers, find that lucky headband, and get ready to pedal. The Y proudly introduces "Pedal for PFY," a 12-hour team relay beginning Monday, Feb. 20th at 10am to help raise money for Partners for Youth (PFY).
Participants will form teams of 5-10 friends who will pedal for as long as they can between 10am and 10pm to secure pledges from friends, family, and others. Don't be surprised if you see varied forms of entertainment throughout the day to keep your spirits up and your legs moving.
Teams can register with YMCA Member Services at a cost of $50 per person. The money raised will boost our scholarship fund to help deserving adults and children who cannot afford our services this year.
Teams who collect the most pledges receive a limited edition "I Pedaled for PFY" wicking shirt. Location(s) for this event will be determined by the number of teams that register so stay tuned.

YMCA Receives STEM Grant
The YMCA of the Inland Northwest was awarded a $3,000 grant from
School's Out Washington to implement a pilot program at two elementary
schools (Evergreen in Mead and Trent in East Valley). The pilot program
is a result of meetings with collaborative partners Mead School
District, Mobius Kids Science Center, the Northeast Washington Education
Service District 101, Eastern Washington University, and Tincan to
improve student engagement with science, technology, engineering and
math. Hands on activities will include engineering, designing and
building bridges, towers and roller coasters. Students will learn the
Engineering Design Process of ask, imagine, plan, create and improve.
Once we successfully implement the program at these two sites, we will
use it at all our other sites as well, exposing children to experiential
applications.
YMCA Leadership Change
The YMCA announces the departure of Rig Riggins, President and CEO, as of January 2, 2012. Rig will lead the Greater Pittsburgh YMCA in their expansion efforts. Alan Lesher, YMCA CFO, will provide leadership in the role of Interim CEO during the CEO search process which should be complete by spring 2012. Best Buy Grant
We are honored to receive a $4,000 grant from the Best Buy Foundation in support of our Youth Investment Program. This grant award allows us to partner with the Spokane Symphony Orchestra to create the "Orchestrating Greatness" experience for at-risk youth. They will have the opportunity to explore how each individual's personal best contributes to the overall success and harmony of the team effort.
YMCA Revitalizes Brand
The YMCA of the Inland Northwest continues to be dedicated to our mission of putting Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body, for all. This is an exciting time for the YMCA and we know you may have questions regarding the rebranding effort. Ys across the country have up to five years to implement the brand changes.
